Corktown is one of Toronto’s oldest downtown residential neighbourhoods. Sitting south of Regent Park and north of the Gardiner Expressway, it is bounded by the Don River to the east, Shuter Street and Berkeley Street to the west.
Until recently the neighbourhood had many vacant industrial buildings, some of which are currently used in production and movie studios, whilst others are being converted into lofts and condominiums. Corktown is named after 19th century Irish immigrants from County Cork. The residents of Corktown were mostly employed at one of the local breweries or brickyards back in the 19th century.
